We funded a new book collection for a children’s hospice, including sensory books for children with varying needs. Reading provides space for imagination, creativity and an opportunity to talk through difficult things.
We funded the refurbishment of a room to support art and play therapy. With simple changes and additions to the decor, the room has transformed into an effective therapeutic space for both adults and children.
We funded a hospice Creative Therapist for one month enabling her to deliver Arts and Creative therapies to patients living with a serious progressive illness. Hospice creative courses reduce feelings of depression and anxiety, promote wellness and the expression of complex feelings.
Activities led by the therapist include a sunflower rag wreath-making session. Colourful sunflowers are created from scraps of fabric, ribbons and buttons. As well as learning a new skill while socialising with others, patients get to take something lovely home with them.
